St. Monica school is located on Terrebonne Street, on the corner of Cavendish Boulevard in Notre Dame de Grace. It is accessible via buses 104 and 138 from Cavendish, bus 102 from Somerled, bus 105 from Sherbrooke, and bus 103 from Monkland.
St. Monica School is committed to providing all students with a stimulating and challenging educational program that will develop students who possess the self-esteem, the self-motivation, and the competencies required to pursue a lifelong love of learning and the social skills to become caring, responsible citizens.
St. Monica offers a bilingual program that concentrates on the mastery of speaking, listening, reading and writing of English and French. All students participate in music classes, we have music in the curriculum, science, technology, physically activities during lunch. Our physical education specialist
teaches classes to students of all cycles. Our resource teachers provide additional support to our students in English and in French. Computer technology is used by our teachers as one of their teaching tools, a most powerful and motivating one.
Events / Activities
Extra-curricular activities during lunch and after school include soap carving, Mad Science, cartooning, tap dancing, Hip Hop dancing, Steelpans, drama. Olympic Games and Field Day are held as part of the physical education program. Grade 6 students attend Classe verte for three days in the spring.
Numerous musical and cultural performances are presented to the students during the course of a year. Students showcase their musical talents and skills in a spring concert. Students participate in excursions linked to their academic programs.
St. Monica’s Governing Board is a very active and vibrant element of school life. The parents hold numerous fundraisers during the year to supplement the school’s budget for field trips, resources for the classroom, Teacher Recognition, etc. Many activities such as the annual BBQ event are organized simply for the enjoyment of students, staff and parents. Monthly Pizza Days and TCBY Days are held by the volunteers. Extra-curricular activities are organized during the lunch period and after school. The Governing Board is also most supportive of the staff’s efforts to provide quality educational services to the students.
